Sublime Evening with Maiko

Sublime Evening with Maiko
2019/08/11

Good day, Thank you for visiting our journal. We hope you all have been well and some of you had a chance to witness Gion Festival last month.   The whole main streets of the centre of Kyoto were crammed with festive energy and people as well as the magnificent Hokos and processions during the period of the festival despite the annual rainy season. Now that rainy season, 梅雨  Tsuyu, has passed, we are feeling that the summer is finally here. The summery weather of Kyoto is so hot and muggy all day long as if the city itself were a huge sauna because of the geographic feature of being basin. Nevertheless, this does not prevent people from visiting to one of the most traditional places in Japan.   We, at Bijuu, always try to help our guests to have the best experience possible while in Kyoto. Today, we would like to introduce another amusement that lets you step into ...more

GION MATSURI
2019/06/19

Hello! Thank you for dropping by our jounernal.   We hope you are well. Although it has been fairly hot in the daytime in Kyoto, it is still lovely cool at night and people enjoy mingling on the bank of Kamo river.   As June is passing by, the folks and shrines have started preparing for an upcoming festival held next month, Gion Matsuri. It is one of the three major festivals in Japan, which lasts for the entire month of July. The city will be dotted with 23 magnificent towering monuments called Hoko that are festive floats decorated with halberds.   This festival dates back to the year 869 when Kyoto was still the capital of Japan. At that time, the people had been suffering from an epidemic all over the country. In order to ward off this apocalyptic situation, they resorted to asking the god of Gion for help. In Shinsenen (the huge garden in the city), they built 66 ...more

Upcoming SAKE Spring Festival in Kyoto

Upcoming SAKE Spring Festival in Kyoto
2019/05/14

Hello! Thank for reading our journal as always and we hope your days have been great.   As the spring has come to Kyoto and cherry blossoms had their climax, it is about time to think about the summer. Although it may seem that there is not much to enjoy in the city after such uplifting spring until the summer, Kyoto still has a load to let you experience a unique time!   SAKE Spring – an event designed to discover new possibilities of SAKE – is going to take place in Kyoto this year again. Last year, approximately 50,000 people participated in this festival.   What makes it special this time is that participants can just walk and drink around in the traditional streets of 木屋町(Kiyamachi) and 先斗町 (Ponto-cho) savouring various SAKE from all over Japan.   From Aomori prefecture, the second northernmost of Japan, to Yamaguchi prefecture, the southernmost of the main continent, about 50 sorts of Sake are ...more

Setsubun Festival in Japan

Setsubun Festival in Japan
2019/02/07

Good day, Now it has come the second month of year and we hope you have been well. According to a calendar, we are in the spring as of 4th February, culturally called 立春(rissyun). It has been nice and warm in Kyoto since then, we are feeling the incipient mood for spring.   The day before the first day of spring, called Setsubun, is a special day in Japan. The word stands for the division between four seasons, although most Japanese may only recognize it as the one in February today.   In the old calendar of Japan, New Year was in February and this Setsubun was therefore New Year’s Eve. There had been an original ritual of spiritual purification for both ending and upcoming year held in the imperial palace during Heian era. Had prevailed and developed afterwards, an iconic tradition of the event introduced and it became widespread to folks.   According to folklore, when Japanese legendary demon Oni appeared once in ...more

The cultural heritage of Japan

The cultural heritage of Japan
2019/02/03

Good day, Thank you for always reading our journal. Recently, there was an exhibition of Kimono, a type of the traditional Japanese clothes, at our suite room 501. This event was designed by Yoshie Kitagawa, to spread and share the profound quality of Kimono and discover its true concept and spirit as well as to let us know that this is something very familiar to us. Kimono dresses are also called japanese style dresses, but they reuse cloths of kimonos and remake them into dresses. Many people including kimono craftsman, as well as designers, are involved in the process, and we are struggling day by day to inherit Japanese aesthetic sense and traditional culture and technology. 【Design】 【Tools of Kimono dress】 Craftsmen tailor either materials of existing Kimono or newly ordered materials to Kimono-dress. The procedure is done by hand and there are a variety of unique forms and designs available on request. This new form of Japanese craftwork will ...more

Cherry blossom, sakura season is about to come,,,

Cherry blossom, sakura season is about to come,,,
2019/01/24

It is still cold winter in Kyoto too, but inside the soil, spring wild grasses and flowers are preparing to bloom. In Japan we divide our season into 24 seasons, which is now DAIKAN,said to be the coldest season of the year. After DAIKAN,from February 4th,comes RISHUN,which will become spring. Each year, we could see Sakura from our guest rooms. In front of our hotel, we have small river,Takase river. And the famous Kamo river is just 3 minutes away. It would be such a good walk in theses seasons to walk along the river. The sakura pedals flies high in the wind and floats in the river, such a poetic scenery. Now the cherry blossom season for this year’s said that would be around,28th of March. Hope you won’t miss this time of Kyoto. Bijuu
